Nitecore UT6 — Three Colours, One Monster Run TorchMonster reckons if you're still picking a headlamp by lumens alone, you're basically choosing a race shoe by how loud it squeaks. The UT6 doesn't just throw light — it throws the right light, in the right colour, for wherever your feet have gotten themselves into trouble. --- Pick Your Light Like You Pick Your Line The UT6 runs Nitecore's MCT system: eight dual-core UHE LEDs behind a unibody multi-faceted optical lens, giving you three genuinely different colour temperatures at the flick of a switch.

Actual race strategy. 3,000K warm light (CRI 98) cuts through rain and fog like it has a point to prove. That near-perfect colour rendering means your brain reads the trail faster when conditions go sideways. 4,500K neutral white (CRI 85) is your technical terrain workhorse: steep slopes, mud, roots, the horrible bit at kilometre 70. 6,500K cool white (CRI 73) is pure punch: 1,600 lumens and a 195-metre beam for flat, fast, head-down hammering when you just need everything lit up and you need it now.

Built to Finish a Hundred Miles The body is magnesium alloy — roughly 30% lighter than the same size in aluminium — and the whole unit weighs just 130g. Reinforced composite bracket, high-impact PC front shell, IP68 waterproof (two metres submersible, so puddles, creek crossings, and the accidental chilly-bin moment are all fine), and impact resistant to two metres. Gravel, mud, rain, someone's aid station table, it handles it. Power comes from a 4,000mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery via USB-C. Run it in Long-Runtime Mode at 150 lumens and you've got 31 hours on tap. High-Performance Mode is there when you need the full 1,600 lumens and the terrain earns it. Lockout Mode means a bag pocket won't drain your battery before the start line.

One Hand, No Fussing The Rapid Reel headband is patent-pending for a reason, one-handed tightening or loosening mid-stride, tested to 10,000 stretch cycles and 30,000 fastening cycles. You're not stopping to fiddle with your headlamp at 3am in the Tararuas. The three-button layout and mode slider were built for gloves-on, brain-half-gone operation at race pace.

TorchMonster loves the MCT colour temperature system on this one — not because having three choices sounds flash on a spec sheet, but because when fog rolls in at kilometre 85 and your depth perception is already arguing with your legs, flicking to 3,000K warm light with CRI 98 is the difference between reading the trail and guessing it. It's like having a lighting director on your forehead who actually knows what they're doing.
