Cold Never Bothered It Anyway
Alpine tramps, skifield missions, winter hunts, those pre-dawn starts where the frost crunches and your breath hangs — this is the headlamp for the cold stuff. The Nitecore HA29 UHE runs happily at minus 40°C and altitudes up to 10,000 metres, which is frankly showing off — nowhere in Aotearoa has ever been that cold or that high. TorchMonster reckons that's exactly the point: if it'll survive an Everest expedition, your July mission up Ruapehu is a lazy Sunday.
Three Whites and a Red
Six dual-core MCT LEDs let you switch the actual colour of your light to match the conditions. Cool white (6500K) for maximum punch on open snow, neutral white (4500K) for general tramping, and a warm 3000K mode with a whopping CRI of 98 — that's the one that cuts through fog, rain, and snowfall instead of bouncing back in your face, and renders colours true enough to read a topo map properly. There's an auxiliary red light too, with two brightness levels, for keeping your night vision (and keeping the bugs uninterested). All up you get 1,200 lumens at full noise, throwing 170 metres, spread through a faceted unibody lens into a smooth flood of over 100°.
Powered for the Deep Freeze
The party trick is the HLB2500 all-weather battery pack — purpose-built chemistry that keeps delivering stable power in temperatures where ordinary lithium cells wave the white flag. And the whole power system is modular: swap the pack for the lighter HLB1500, or click in the battery case and run three AAAs from the glovebox when you're caught short in the back of beyond. On the 8-lumen ultralow, it'll glow for up to 122 hours straight.
Light as a Beanie
All of that comes in at 112 grams including the battery, bracket, and headband, with a magnesium alloy heat sink and air ducts keeping it cool under load. IPX8 waterproofing means sleet, downpours, and dunkings are no drama, and the two buttons are different shapes so you can work it one-handed with gloves on, no peeking.
TorchMonster loves the three-way power system — a rechargeable pack for normal life, an arctic-grade pack for the serious stuff, and humble AAAs as the get-out-of-jail card. If you'll never actually need the deep-freeze battery, its little sibling the HA27 UHE is lighter and cheaper — but for cold-country people, this is the one that won't quit on the tops.
