Keychain Light Grows Up, Gets Three Personalities

Right, so you know how some people carry a tiny keychain torch that's basically a slightly angry glow-worm? The Nitecore TUP2 is not that torch. It is a 1,200-lumen pocket rocket disguised as something your keys accidentally brought home.

TorchMonster reckons this is the cleverest little EDC light to land on these shores in a good while — and at 58 grams hanging off your keys, you'll forget it's there until the moment you desperately need it.

ONE LIGHT, THREE MOODS

The TUP2 runs four quad-core MCT UHE LEDs that switch between warm light (3,000K, think cosy campfire vibes), neutral white (4,500K, the sensible all-rounder), and cool white (6,500K, crisp and clinical when you need to read something tiny or convince people you're a professional). Five brightness levels across each colour temperature means 15 different output options from a light that's 70mm long and 27mm wide. That's not a spec sheet, that's a personality disorder in the best possible way.

PUNCHES WELL ABOVE ITS WEIGHT CLASS

Peak output of 1,200 lumens, beam intensity of 3,900 candela, and a throw of 125 metres. On a keychain. To put that in perspective, 125 metres is roughly the length of a decent paddock — and this thing reaches the far fence. The TIR optical lenses keep the beam uniform and soft rather than that nasty hotspot-and-darkness situation cheaper lights produce.

THE BRAINS OF THE OPERATION

That little OLED display shows lumens, battery level, and remaining runtime in real time, because guessing how much juice you've got left is a game for amateurs. The built-in 1,300mAh li-ion battery charges via USB-C and runs up to 190 hours on lower modes. Advanced Power Cut-Off (APC) technology keeps standby drain nearly nothing, and the intelligent memory function remembers your last colour temperature and brightness level — so it wakes up ready to go, exactly how you left it.

The stainless steel clip and metal tail ring (rated to hold 30 kilograms, which is genuinely unhinged for a keychain fitting) mean this thing stays put. Semi lockout and full lockout modes mean it won't accidentally light up the inside of your bag. HA III military-grade hard-anodized aluminium body, IP54 waterproofing, 2-metre impact resistance — tough enough to actually live on your keys and survive your life.

TorchMonster loves the three-colour-temperature switching on this one — it's not a gimmick. Warm for reading in the tent without murdering your night vision, neutral for everyday tasks, cool white when you need clinical-level clarity, all selectable on the fly from a light smaller than a standard permanent marker. Basically a Swiss Army knife that replaced all the blades with light.
